Everyone says "all you need is a pair of shoes" but the barrier to entry is even lower than that! You can run naked and barefoot and we count that. It might even earn bonus points.
Inclusive is good. I'm not saying running should be more exclusive. I love that almost anyone can do it. However, it should feel connected, like more of a culture. The way I see it, "Running" is broad and shallow. And it's hard to make something deep and broad. Unless it's the Pacific Ocean.
The problem is that there's no unifying spirit to runners. No rules. No initiation. It's a club that anyone can join. A form of exercise and exercise is lame and boring.
Again, accessibility and inclusivity in running are good things. And on the surface level, I want it to keep that openness. But you can't stay on the surface forever.
